The Find in Files function stopped working a few days ago, both using Ctrl-Shift-F and the menu Edit > Find in Files.

I completely uninstalled and reinstalled VIP 802, but no joy. The same function worked normally in VIP 904 (before I uninstalled it). The 802 problem started before installing 903.

Addendum:

I noticed that there is a registry setting for grep. Could this be related to FIF not working?

What do you mean by "stopped working"?

The registry settings should not prevent the dialog from working.

I now understand about the 'grep' registry settings -- they appear to store the settings and position of the Find in Files dialog.

What happens is that if I highlight a folder in the project tree and press Ctrl-Shift-F the IDE greys out slightly as it would do when losing focus, but the search dialog does not appear. The same thing happens if I try to use the main menu to do the search ( Edit > Find in Files... ).

I have completely removed and reinstalled 802, but the behavior persists.

This problem recurred today. I closed the IDE and deleted the <project>.env file using Windows File Explorer and the problem went away.

Restarting the computer does not help.

Next time you may rename <project>.env instead and compare the files and/or send it to us.

Solved:

For some unknown reason, the FIF dialog was opening almost completely off the top of the desktop screen and only a tiny sliver of the grey bottom of the dialog was visible.

I couldn't use the mouse to "grab" the title bar of the dialog because it was far off the screen, so I was able to relocate it using Alt-Spacebar M and the arrow keys.

It restored in erratic positions a few times before settling down and also I noticed (recently) that the Task Bar would become about 50% taller when opening the 802 IDE (but not the 906 IDE), so I unlocked, resized and re-locked the Task Bar, which stabilized the Task Bar sizing issue.

Happened again after a Windows update today -- fixed it the same way as before.

This doesn't happen with VIP 9x.
