How can I fix the text in the icon editor?

When I want to add some letters to an icon they appear in mixed color.
When I have entered the letters and want to do something else the letters disappear.
Is it an unsolved bug of IDE?
What is your recommended 3rd party icon and bitmap editor?

It is a bug.

The problem is that the font uses some kind of edge smudging (ClearType). This results in the blended colors you see. However, since the icon only have 16 colors most of the mixed colors simply disappears once they are put into the icon.
