Interfacing Visual Prolog with real world digital inputs and outputs

Unread post by Alan45 » 10 Sep 2011 23:11

I'm interested in the possibility of using Visual Prolog to control machinery, in my case interfacing with some stepper motors, switches and relays.

I've done this many times before using languages such as C and Visual Basic but now that I am retired would like to try the different approach of using a rule based system just as a hobby.

The conventional way of doing this is via a card that plugs into the PCI bus and allows the computer to read and write external digital signals. Does anyone know of a suitable inexpensive card that can be used for this purpose AND that interfaces easily to Visual Prolog.

That sounds interesting. :-) I cannot help with suitable card. What did you use last time? If you have found one please post what it was here.

You say you have done this many times before using languages such as C and Visual Basic. Can you provide some short examples in one of these two languages (procedures) then we could try engineering them in VP. :?:
